No. U R thoroughly mistaken. By allowing diversity, Bangalore is great but what did we learn from them is the cause? You need to take a panoramic view and not the head count. You are talking about the effect but not the cause.
Bangalore is, as u said, a silicon valley and not Kannadigas capital. When u earn something, u lose something. I have lived in Bangalore (I am a Kannadiga from Madras, TamilNadu) for over a year and I could mingle well with the local population due to my Kannada background. My overall experience was they were more closed, which is not a bad thing but might prove bad sometimes.
History says it all. The population exodus with in the same country has been taking place for quite some time. Gujarathis, Malayalis top the list closely followed by Tamils in moving across states for JOBS. Thats where Kannadigas fail most. My brother in Bangalore used to pass a comment "kannadigas love their land and are more introvert by nature. A guy living in Mysore road wants a job with in a 4 mile radius and will not even travel to Indra Nagar (Those who dont know the demographics These 2 areas are sufficiently apart from each other)". Leave alone people from other big cities like Shimoga, Belgaum, Mangalore, and Mysore etc., Since kannadigas themselves are not ready to move to Bangalore, their population remains the same.
It is becoz of these qualities that Tamils, Malayalis, Hindi businessmen like Marvadis have moved to Bangalore. Even in Chennai, most of them are people from other parts of TN. People of Chennai origin are very few in Chennai.
For Malayalis, they HAVE to move out, as there are not many industries in Kerala. Also they dont complain life. Even many tamils in TN where Hindi is not very much liked, immediately move to Mumbai, Baroda not worried about their lack of Hindi when the opportunities knock them. It is in their spirit to travel.
If you cant accept changes quickly, you have to pay the price. (Y)our forefathers, and previous generations were not flexible which made others occupy your land. The rules were the same but peoples mentalities were different. Even many tamil artists and poets did their best to spread their intellectual thoughts but Karnataka artists and poets(enjoys great literature more than several other languages), did not do much.
Also the author should know that these movements rapidly increase growth. Mumbai is our financial capital Thanks to millions of non-Marathis. I am not saying Marathis are incompetent but when others move, the city flourishes. So You should give credit to non-kannadigas for their involvement in Bangalores growth. The fault lies not in those companies who travel to other state for campus interviews, but your own people. What I am saying is that many people living in Mysore, Shimoga, Dharwad are complacent in their life style. They think Bangalore is a foreign land. When I studied at Coimbatore, in my final year of Engineering, I happened to help my friend who prepared the list of companies and we invited several companies from Banagalore. You need to know if colleges in other cities in Karnataka do the same!!!
The author should also realize that even Bill Gates travel to Bangalore Thanks to the diversity of the people. Also 80% of tea shops are owned by Malayalis in any part of India and you cant blame them. It is their entrepreneurial skills that won. This movement of Tamils to Bangalore has been happening for decades and you cant feel bad for that. I would suggest that the author should also move out and meet different experiences. Dont take clue from your recent Madras experience. Your Govt is also to blame to some extent as they are unfriendly towards their neighbors. Tamils in contrast may look feudalistic but accept and explore more cultures and thats why we see a big group of tamils in Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Delhi, Baroda, Calcutta, Jamshedpur and also Internationally Singapore, Malaysia, Srilanka, US, UK, European countries, Middle East, Australia, NewZ to name a few. Their poets stress "thiraikadal odium Dhiravium thedu" which means "Go in all directions and seek prosperity". Moving is in their culture. Kannadigas have to learn that. Its good that people like you, bring up this topic becoz it makes you think global.
In other words, kannadigas have to come out of their shell and be more open. Like seize the opportunities. But if you and I think stopping non-kannadigas may be good for Bangalore, sure more kannadigas will be in but Bangalore will lose its identity and will disappear into unspoken hub of cities.
You need to pro-active and not reactive. Goodluck.
